Spa Love: Ted Gibson Salon/Hela Spa in Chevy Chase (DC)…

I had the opportunity to spend the morning at the Ted Gibson Salon & Hela Spa just outside DC in Chevy Chase, MD yesterday!!  The spa’s grand opening was just in time for inauguration day (I heard they were PACKED) and it has already garnered a serious following.  Regular readers know how much I love Ted so I was super excited to spend some time at the location and check out the goods.  If you are in the DC Metro area, the salon is located off Wisconsin Ave. in the heart of Chevy Chase near upscale shops and restaurants.  It actually used to be a Georgette Klinger salon for years before Ted and Co. took it over.

The interior is absolutely gawgus and has a very European feel.  The spa is Swedish inspired and is also a certified medi-spa offering injectibles and other non-invasive plastic surgery techniques.  All of the medi-spa services are performed by board certified Doctors that are part of the spa’s staff.  They also offer an extensive variety of different spa treatments some of which I was able to sample.  The salon side was equally as gorgeous and had several private areas, one for Phyto Specific hair treatments, another strictly for men that uses L’Oreal Homme products and finally a mani/pedi station that is a “one at a time” private experience.

I got a the “Stokholm” a classic Swedish massage (although I think she threw some deep tissue in there!!) It was a full body massage and I was definitely feeling much better afterwards.  My masseuse, Teresa had over 22 years experience so I was in very capable hands.  I felt like she was pulling the stress out through my toes and fingers.  I was literally nearly asleep on the table when she was done.

Then it was off to my facial with Sadie.  Sadie was a facialist at the Red Door for 10 years and also has over 20 years of experience.  I received the “Ingrid Bergman” which is a deep cleaning facial and microdermabrasion mask with extractions BUT they also offer extras I also got an amazing enzyme masque and a paraffin treatment on my hands and feet.  Sadie was amazing and very gentle, she kept me in the loop every step of the way as far as what treatments she was using and for what reason.  She also gave me literature on the products she used which was quite helpful actually.

Now lastly, my hair….Tiffany was my stylist and she did her thing!  I got a scalp treatment with Ted Gibson’s Goodnight and then a shampoo and condition with Ted Gibson’s Daily Cleanse & Daily Nourish (smells like blood orange…very refreshing).  Then she worked  in some Tame It Shine Lotion and she blew my hair out with an ionic ceramic round brush and it looked SO SHINY!!  She got it really straight and she didn’t even flat iron it ONCE…amazing.  It also had loads of body (while she was blow drying she used Beautiful Hold hairspray which gave my hair hold but not sticky hold…I could still run my fingers through it.  While I was getting my hair done, a smooth young brotha named Ulysses offered me a complimentary hand massage that was very relaxing.  He used something called Body Condioner in Transformations (he let me pick the scent I wanted from three).  He wrapped my hands in hot towels and then asked me to “Do him a favor and close my eyes and try to relax….”  Yessir.  I closed my eyes and he went to work on my hands which were amazingly soft and smelled divine.  I told Tiffany I am coming to her from now on so ladies get in line because I’m first!  LOL…

All in all , an amazing experience hands down the best spa I have been to in a while.  If you are in the DC Metro Area and you are looking for a new place to get your hair done or get a spa treatment…this is the spot.  The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the staff goes out of their way to accommodate you in every way.  This is my new spot so if you are around in a few weeks, I am going back for a cut and color.

I just went today! I also got Tiffany. I got a Phyto relaxer and the whole Phyto treatment (first time w/my head in a steamer!). And I got a cut – I like my hair short and she really listened to me about my hair type and my problem spots and everything. Ulysses also came around when I was under the steamer. I think I ended up with Transformations, too. That hand massage was totally needed after an intensive time at work on the computer. I think I'll be back.
