I attended an event this past Saturday at a local salon in DC called DBrows, located on U Street, NW downtown. They specialize in brow grooming, threading, waxing, mini spa treatments AND eyelash extensions! I decided to get a pair of the lash extensions, see how long they last and report back to you along the way. Now you know me, I will try anything once so I was excited to give these babies a test run. Please excuse my iPhone photos…but you will be able to get the general idea (My natural lashes below…)
My lashes aren’t short at all but they are fine and slightly sparse. I can usually get the look I want with a few coats of CoverGirl Lash Exact, but I have been known to rock the falsies on occasion. Wearing these would eliminate the need for mascara all together so I was intrigued. Now…onto the actual application. When I got to DBrows I was greeted by the salon staff and offered a complimentary beverage (vury nais…) and I was told that Lisa would be with me in a moment. Lisa, is the resident lash and brow guru who has over 12 years of experience doing makeup. She is trained on all kinds of lash extensions and is a PERFECTIONIST (she kept going back and adding one or two here and there after I was done!) Before she got started, Lisa asked me if I wanted everyday or glamour…you know what I said right? Glamour all the way LOL, she used TWO strand lengths for a more natural effect. I got the Single Strand Lashes which are synthetic and last 3 to 4 weeks. (Price list here) The single strand lashes are better for lashes that have some curl to them, they also offer The Flirt which is more of a flare lash that is better suited for straighter lashes. I have heard reports that they last longer than the 4 weeks so we shall see! (my lashes after application below…)
Now, a few things about lash extensions that I didn’t know….
- Don’t rub or tug at your eyes
- Dont wear any mascara, AT ALL
- Don’t use waterproof eye makeup remover (the oil in it is an enemy of the glue that holds the lashes on)
- Don’t take hot showers (steam is also an enemy, although I just kept the door open and I have been fine)
- If you wear contacts, make sure you take them out before you have the application.
The whole process took about an hour and was totally painless (the only problem I had was tearing up from the glue (which is safe for the eyes but it feels uncomfortable which I why I suggest you take out your lenses). I think they look really natural and how about I don’t need any mascara! All in all, a fantastic experience and for $58, If was going out of town for a week or had a special event to go to, I would absolutely do this again. My mother thinks they are too long (she said something like , “Oh lawd…” when she saw them LOL) but I love them. I has been a few days and they are still holding strong.
DBrows is located in DC at 1203 U Street, NW next to the famous Ben’s Chili Bowl, call them at 202-232-7677 for an appointment.
