The results are DRAMATIC, so I won’t keep you in suspense, here is the before and after below, now let me tell you how this all came to be….
The story starts off like this……my sister who is a new mother and my very best friend in the world came to visit last Wednesday. Prior to this visit, she lamented about wanting to chop off all her long glorious hair because she had just HAD IT. She was tired of having to fix it, do it, blow dry it, flat iron it……and with a baby who is nearly one years old as of this writing, she simply doesn’t have the time. My dear sister, a former high fashion model and actress…has had her share of hair transformations. There was the time she dyed it black in high school, then it was fire engine red…and then there was the time she dyed it blonde for a one woman play in college and then relaxed it….it all fell out and she shaved her head, then when she was modeling she had it dyed and cut and cut and cut on a regular basis.
But now, being married with child…her hair is far far past her shoulders. Now I know (and possibly you do too) how hard being a new mom can be…..and if you know what I know, then you are well aware of the pressures placed upon you. So it was very clear that my beloved sister had a bad case of…”The Mommies“. No matter what she did, she didn’t feel like her beautiful, gorgeous pre-child self, nor did she have the time or energy to do so, and trust me, that is a deal breaker when it comes to your well being and self esteem as a woman.
So what’s a sister to do? I felt her pain and decided there was only one solution, an extreme mommy hair makeover. So I called up my friends at the Ted Gibson salon in Chevy Chase and we got to work on a plan. Regular readers know of the magic my stylist Tiffany Nicole has worked on me over the past six months, and my sister had heard me talk, but now was about to find out just how good she really was. Tiffany took one look at her and her hair and told her that she didn’t need to chop it all off (she wanted a Halle Berry cut) and that she just needed a style and some technique. Tiffany later told her that if Stasi had begged her to cut it, she would have politely declined….but more on that later. Tiffany combed out my sister’s mommy pigtails and told her, “Your hair is beautiful, you don’t need to cut it you just need the proper tools to get it done in a reasonable amount of time“….Stasi started to listen…
My sister wanted s relaxer to make it more manageable, Tiff told her all she needed was a paddle brush and she showed her how easy and less time consuming it was to use the paddle brush than it was to try and blow dry it with round brushes, she was amazed. Ladies with long thick hair please take note, the paddle brush is definitely the way to go. As Tiffany started to work her magic, my sister was more and more impressed. Not only did she talk her out of chopping her hair off, she talked her out of a relaxer as well. Tiffany blew her hair dry after her treatments and flat ironed it section by section, then she cut her hair. Stacey’s hair emerged healthy shiny and swingy (something she said hasn’t happened in a long long time). When she was finished in Tiffany’s words, “It looks like hair on a track, yakky #2….“ We were all laughing so hard…then my sister said, “I had to fly across the country to Virginia and drive to Maryland to find you….so I could feel great about my hair.” Nuff said…
Here’s What Stasi Had Done:
- Clairol Professional Hair Color in a warm chocolate brown to darken her hair and tone down the brassies (she had previously tried to dye it herself)
- Phytospecific Multi-Regenerating Creme Bath (under the steamer)
- Fab precision shaping cut from Tiffany Nicole
When we left the salon hours later, my sister emerged a new woman. She was so so happy that the smile on her face and the smile on her son’s face at her pure elation was enough for me. There is definitely something to be said for the power of beauty and a makeover when you are feeling down…she got her sexy back in a big way! Later on, when her husband saw her on Skype, he was beaming….he said, “WOW!!! Your hair is so shiny, it looks like the ladies in the shampoo commercials!!”
Special shout out to the Ted Gibson salon in Chevy Chase for making it all happen….to Tiffany Nicole for being amazing as usual and for Ulysses who amazingly….got my nephew to sleep in the middle of the chaos. All I can say is….in the words of the infamous RuPaul….”You betta work….”
Stay Pretty…and HAPPY
