Fall 2009: YSL Makeup Collection – Elegant, Mysterious, Sensual…

Grey is the new black for fall….I am seeing it everywhere from shadows to nails….smokey grey is red hot.  YSL took  their inspiration from the Fall ready to wear fashion collection of exquisite tailoring with sumptuous textures, a flawless complexion is offset by magnetic pearl grey eyes and intense plum lips.  My fave in this collection are the shadows and the nail lacquer….the grey looks really stellar on short squared off nails.

Hi! I have already started to find my drug store duplicates of these awesome colors! Milani has got some great versions of these nail polishes, still working on the rest.

Hi Roberta..The shimmer factor in the shadows is more of a frost than a glitter (I'm over 40 and I think it looks fine on me). The key to wearing a collection with intense colors over 40 is application technique. Make sure you use a set of brushes the the shades will go on much lighter, that way you can control the intensity and build the colors by layering them on a little at a time Hope this helps! :-)

Thanks for the advice. I'm just getting into the whole makeup scene (and at my age!). Do you think I should buy a set of brushes and start practicing, or go to one of the department stores for lessons?

Roberta!Welcome to the world of makeup! Woo hoo! I would definitely invest in some brushes (they don't even have to be expensive, Sephora has some great sets!!) They also have SO many instructional videos on YouTube that I wouldnt bother paying for lessons or anything like that. Just get the brushes and experiment! A great YouTube Channel is Erin from Scandalous Beauty http://www.youtube.com/user/scandalousbeauty
