How To: Gossip Girl Blake Lively’s Hair at Home…

Every year or two, there is always an “IT Girl” hairstyle, right now, it’s all about the long sexy waves.  For quite some time, it has been a definite return to looks of the 70′s and 80′s.  First Rihanna  and Victoria Beckham with the angled choppy dos now long 70′s beachy covergirl looks are back.  And if last week’s NY Times article titled A ‘Gossip Girl’ Look, Pronto!, is any indication…this season’s new it hairstyle is the “Blake Lively.” My friend Amber got the look and you can too with these tips from hollywood hair guru Kevin Mancuso.

This relaxed style features loose, tousled waves with long layers. And while the experts featured in the NY Times story claim the look is more difficult than it looks to achieve, celebrity hairstylist and Nexxus Creative Director Kevin Mancuso thinks women everywhere can easily recreate this look at home.  Mancuso – who has worked with Ms. Lively, as well as Gossip Girl co-star Jessica Szohr – says “Women should take inspiration from this Bohemian style and incorporate its carefree ‘essence’ into their own style.”

Below, find Kevin’s tips for recreating a “Blake Lively” inspired look at home:

1. Apply a curl enhancing mousse, like Nexxus Gorgeous Curls Curl Enhancing Styling Foam, evenly throughout damp hair.
2. Turn head upside down and blow dry, using fingers to scrunch hair. Once dry, flip head back up and create slightly off-center part.
3. Use a medium size curling iron to create well-defined curls randomly throughout the bottom half of locks only.Finish the look by applying a light coating of a texturizing lotion, such as Nexxus VersaStyler Artistic Designing Lotion, with fingers, separating and loosening the curls as you go.

Now, if you were not blessed in the thickness department, you can always use some clip in hair extensions (try Ted Gibson’s) for some extra volume and bounce.
