When I was a young makeup artist, living in New York City… one of the first retail cosmetics lines that I worked for was Princess Marcella Borghese. Marcella was an Italian princess that took an idea and turned it into an empire. She used to have her lipsticks custom made to match her outfits and as her children got older, she decided to expand on that idea. She had her personal chemist create samples of eight lipsticks and asked eight Italian designers to make outfits to match each shade. In 1956 she came to the United States with three models, the eight lipsticks and the designer clothes to launch Princess Marcella Borghese Inc. as a wholly
owned subsidiary of Revlon Inc.
In the late 80′s and early 90′s, Borghese became best known for it’s spa treatment line called Terme Di Montecatini after the thermal mineral water sources found in Montecatini, Italy. This was the first spa like treatment line of it’s kind sold in department stores and it did take a while to catch on. The idea behind it was that you could have a spa experience at home, something we all appreciate and want more of than ever these days. One of the products I still use to this day is called Fango Active Mud for face and body, this is one of my all time faves and I would be so upset if they ever stopped making this. If you are looking for an at-home spa experience…look no further.
