Okay so she’s only 9 but she has more swag and personality than people three times her age. Plus…it’s clear that she has her father’s outgoing personality. The spawn of superstar powerhouses Jada Pinkett -Smith and Will Smith is poised to be the next pop superstar and guess what folks…Jay -Z is behind all of this so you know she isn’t going anywhere anytime soon (hello, Rihanna!). I listened to an interview today where Jay said he heard the song and was like, “Wow that is a smash hit…” before he even knew that the singer was 9 or that it was Will & Jada’s daughter. The nine year old also said in the interview with Ryan Seacrest that the song was about, “Expressing yourself and being who you really are and not being afraid of that or letting anyone tell you that it’s wrong.” Well said.
I know there were a lot of blogs that criticized them for letting her have the asymmetrical hairdo at such a young age (I think she was 7 or 8 at the time) but you know what….being a kid is all about expressing yourself. It’s not like she is going to school everyday, she is the child of millionaires for pete’s sake…she has tutors. Hopping on and off planes is an everyday occurrence for her…..so let her do her thing! I’m glad my parents let me do what I wanted (I had blonde bangs, weird haircuts and basically wore vintage clothes to school everyday when I was growing up). The point is, let them do it early and they will be able to express themselves in a healthy manner. Let them figure out what works for them first without superimposing your ideas and beliefs on them.
