Hey all! I know I am known around these parts for having shoulder length hair but as fashion week approached I kinda wanted to do something different. So, when I got the chance to do a sew in weave I figured, why not? I confess, I have had a sew in weave WAAAAY back in the day when they first came out (back in 1989) and while I loved it, the hair didn’t match and it was a LOT of work. This time around, I had hair that very CLOSELY matched mine (nobody could tell unless they felt the back of my head) AND it looked amazing. Thanks to my hair boo Tiffany Nicole at the Hela Spa & Salon in Chevy Chase my long hair fantasy became a reality.

First up, the hair….Tiffany selected Remy with a slight wave to match my hair and I only have the back portion braided down. She then sewed the hair on top. Now….the problem with this I have is maintenance. Because I am a very no-nonsense kinda gal….my scalp was itching AND I have to let it fully air dry or sit under a hood dryer to make sure the hair that is braided underneath is dry BEFORE I style. Bear that in mind before you consider getting a sew in, if you aren’t willing to do that then your weave won’t last as long. I have had mine for about a month and I have relied on dabbing Sea Breeze in small doses to keep my scalp from itching (which has been a HUGE help). I have also been shampooing the back half where the tracks are with a mixture of SeaBreeze, water and shampoo which has left my scalp feeling super fresh. (another concoction from Ms. Tiffany Nicole)
I went back after about two weeks and had nearly 4 inches cut off (I like it much much better as it looks more natural to me – like my hair with the volume turned up) I have been wearing it kind of wavy (beachy kind of waves), I really LOVE the way it looks but it is taking a serious commitment from me to maintain it. When you are considering a sew in, make sure you TRUST the person doing it OR they should come highly recommended (like Ms. Tiffany Nicole) make sure you are prepared because it is a LOT of work to maintain AND keep looking good at the same time. If you are going to just sleep on it and not wrap it and take the time required to actually “DO” your hair every morning then you shouldn’t bother. If you don’t take care of it, your investment can end up looking matted and tangled (not pretty). M y experience has been fantastic overall and as I said, LOVE how it looks!!
