I’m going to take a break from my fashion week coverage to pay respect to Miss Whitney Houston who died suddenly this past Saturday at the age of 48. She was undoubtedly a beauty icon and an AMAZING performer/singer. Thanks to social media, we found out of her untimely passing right in the middle of my fashion week event Cocktails & Couture. Immediately, the DJ got on the the mic and we played Whitney songs for at least an hour. Surprisingly, the mood was more shock than sadness….everyone was singing and talking about it so it turned into a kind of celebration.
For me, Whitney was an icon. I remember her being on the cover of Seventeen magazine and reading that issue cover to cover. She also modeled and would routinely be inside the magazine and in ads for makeup. Then her first album came out and the world figured out she could sing…..not just sing but sing but sing better than practically anyone else at the time. She was a powerhouse and a star was born. Whitney definitely had her ups and downs over the years, highlights and lowlights just like anyone else. She always rebounded, and as soon as she opened her mouth to sing….she made all the doubt disappear. She will be remembered as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth. Nobody knows why people go down the path they do…..my only wish is that Whitney is at peace now.
So, in honor of her, I would like to feature some of Whitney’s most memorable beauty moments here on TMG and remember her with one of my favorite songs.
Rest in Peace Whitney….
