Spa Love: My FAB Deep Cleaning Facial at The Emerald Door in DC…

Hello All!!  As you may well know, here at TMG the belief is that if you have great skin then your makeup will look great.  Keep your canvas well cared for and the paint will shine!  So I am a big believer in skin care and facials.  I recently became an Eco Chi Ambassador for a little spa in the DC Metro area called The Emerald Door.  This is a really chill spot that is off the beaten path (in MD not DC proper) BUT what I love about them is that they are all about the health of your skin/body/ nails as well as how it looks.  They do this AMAZING Jelly Pedi (which I will have to tell you about later) and as far as facials go, it is the best one I have had in a while and I will tell you why.  They only have one treatment room so you KNOW you are getting top notch care – not many places do that anymore. PLUS you can add on treatments to your base facial for a customized experience.

My facial was performed by Candy who is from China.  Candy had been in the US for just a little while but she has been in the business of skin for a long time.  She had light and quick fingers that danced across my face AND she got a blackhead out of my nose (which I wasn’t aware that I had) she said, “I have to use the tool, yeah??  It will hurt but I will get it all.”  I told her to go for it (I don;t think I have ever had a blackhead in my life so I wanted it GONE) and it did hurt but dang…my skin looked GOOD afterwards!  She used Thalgo products (which is a French line of algae & marine based skincare that I have been DYING to try) and she gave me parraffin on my hands and feet, a craniosacral massage AND a light massage on my arms and shoulders. Talk about WHOA.  She also used this super cool machine (you know how I am about science, gadgets and what not) that is essentially an organic micro-dermabrasion treatment (details below straight from ED)

Bellaire Ultrasonic Skin Spatula
Ultrasonic therapy employs high frequency vibration to gently exfoliate dead skin cells for a cleaner, healthier complexion without redness, swelling, and irritation commonly associated with Microdermabrasion. Our Ultrasonic facial treatment

  • Loosens and removes oil, dirt, and cellular debris from follicles to achieve a radiant healthy glow.
  • Diminishes wrinkles and fine lines by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, incredibly hydrating & age-defying!
  • Aids in penetrating topical skin products beyond the epidermis through Sonophoresis. It smooths and rejuvenates skin and gently
  • Exfoliates rough acne and rough and dry patches, leaving beautiful glowing, smooth skin.

Although Ultrasonic treatment has been shown to produce an immediate and temporary firming effect, continued application will provide more cumulative long-term, lasting results.

It felt weird…kind of like a buzzing motion on my skin (if that makes any sense…) You can add the Ultrasonic treatment to any facial for $35!  Oh and another thing, the facials are REASONABLE too the most expensive one is $145!  Make sure you go see Candy and let her work her magic.

I typically stray away from Microdermabrasion (for the reasons you listed, actually) but this new method sounds great. I’ll give it a try at the next place I find that has it. Thanks!
