How To: Do Nude Makeup Without Looking Overdone…

I must confess, one of my all time favorite makeup looks in general is the nude thing.  All skin tones can wear it, and it can be tweaked to look natural or totally glam.  The only addition to the glam look would be a possibly a darker or more shimmery lip.  I have worn the same nude look from day into night though.  The secret to pulling off the nude look is to keep it natural and soft. Nothing matte, in fact I prefer a more dewey look than matte.  Let me break it down for you.

The Rundown:

  • If you use foundation, try the new MAC Mineralize Moisture Foundation…It’s brilliant.  Or if you use liquid or stick foundation make sure you sheer it out with a sponge and apply some loose powder with a brush so you don’t look cakey. I am quite partial to tinted moisturizer or BB Cream as a base. You can fisnish with my favorite powder MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural for a glowy look.
  • Next, select a blush shade that is extremely neutral (maybe with a little pop of pink). A great color is NARS powder blush in LoveJoy or Oasis.  Place the blush on the apples of your cheeks, on your eyelids, nose and chin.  For darker skintones, try MAC Blush in Blunt or Raizin.
  • Eyes next, keep these neutral as well.  I like Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Sand Glow, Khaki or Cocoa.  Use this along your lashline and/or in the crease of your eye and blend blend blend honey.  If you do not have a crease, then just do the lashline and smudge.  Now finish with a little dark brown eyeliner, I like MAC PowerPoint Eyepencil in Stubborn Brown or Buried Treasure.  Finish with lots and lots of mascara, my favorite right now is CoverGirl Lash Blast Clump Crusher for sexy full lashes.
  • Lastly on your lips, Use a lip stain for staying power.  I like Stila Lip & Cheek Stain in Coconut Crush if you are doing nude lips or Acai Crush is you are going red.  Finish with NARS Satin Lip Pencils in Het Loo or Golshan (any of these would work though, they are flwless.    If you prefer something lighter use a gloss the one that I adore are NARS Lip Gloss in Coup de Coeur, Female Trouble or Harlow.

Nude is very wearable if you know how.  Just follow my guide and you will have a natural nude look in no time!

I loove the nude style…a make up artist that I found once told me how to look natural with so little make up but still my skin would look refreshing and it will glow. I am so satisfied. I use the powder MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural btw…I was so happy that you have it in your article. Thank you. Iva
