Must Have: AJ Crimson BB + D Cream [Swatches + Review]…

Makeup Artist AJ Crimson who has worked with everyone from Hillary Duff to Brandy has a hit on his hands with his new BB + D Cream. It is my new go to in my makeup arsenal.  Why?  Because of the coverage and the shade range.  So what does the D stand for?  It stands for DD (yeah you heard me…DD – this is an official thing now).  DD stands for Dynamic Do-It-All which is a hybrid of BB & CC (oh yes, CC is color correcting).  The DD part is what gives this cream it’s fantastic coverage.

If you read my article explaining What is a BB Cream then you already know that there is an issue in the market with shade range for fair and dark-skinned beauties (and some cases, those in between as well).  The major issue with most BB Creams not being able to get the shade range right is the addition of SPF.  SPF, while important…contains large amounts of zinc and the lighter or darker you go will 100% change the shade of the makeup making it look gray (for darker skinned girls) and too dark (for fair-skinned girls).  This is one of the major reasons that most BB Creams only come in light to medium shades.  AJ takes that off the table by removing the SPF.  SO how do your protect?  Simple….you need to wear your own SPF.  Just put it on first, let it absorb then apply your color.  AJ’s shade range is so nice that people were CROWDED around his booth at The Makeup Show this past May in NYC.  I was able to swatch the shade range peep this pic below…

Shade Range for AJ Crimson BB Cream

As you can see – there is something for really fair AND dark skin tones.  Just for reference I am Number 4 (somewhere in the middle!) A little bit goes a LONG way so you can use it sparingly.  I like to use a brush to control the amount on my face but you could absolutely use your fingers. Another note, currently the product is in a tube and he is switching it to an airless pump for better delivery as the product is SUPER rich and on the thick side.

The Rundown:

  • Terriffic Moisurizing BB Cream
  • Great coverage that is buildable (from sheer to semi-full)
  • Won’t leave your skin feeling greasy or oily
  • Natural looking (even with fuller coverage)
  • Lightweight
  • doubles as a primer

Get your AJ Crimson BB Cream [$34] on his shopify site (his main site will be up and running sometime this month. He also has a really nice video announcing the product and his campaign check that out below…

I wasn’t feeling it but want to try using it a different way to make it work. I felt the color range from 1 to 8 all had a pinky undertone. Would love your suggestions on different application techniques.
