Lianne Farbes is the Publisher and Editor In Chief of TheMakeupGirl. She is a Beauty Expert with over 20 years of experience working with makeup and skincare and has held every retail beauty position from sales girl to counter manager. She has made a living as a professional makeup artist and continues to spread her beauty knowledge through seminars and speaking engagements throughout the US.
Lianne grew up experimenting with mixing makeup shades at an early as she was finding that there was never ONE that matched her perfectly. She learned all about contouring and use of color from a makeup artist’s point of view when she was modeling as a teen and ended up doing her own makeup for many of the advertisements she was appearing in. She left the safe haven of home to attend Parsons School of Design in New York City as soon as she graduated high school. While there, she studied Color Theory, Fashion Journalism and Merchandising. After college, she eventually became one of the first custom powder blenders for the now defunct Estee Lauder owned brand Prescriptives, a pioneer in that area. Lianne has also worked for beauty giants Lancôme, Clarins, and Borghese. She has trained with the best and has a wealth of knowledge in both skincare and makeup.
Lianne founded her blog, TheMakeupGirl in 2006 and it has since become one of the most popular beauty sites on the web. A self confessed “web 2.0 addict and social media enthusiast,” Lianne has has leveraged social media sites like Twitter and Facebook to increase her site’s readership, popularity and traffic by 300% in the first year alone. The site has been featured in InStyle Magazine’s Best of the web issue (November 2009), About.com’s listing of the best beauty blogs, Glamour.com, The SassyBean, Woman’s Day Magazine and has recently been listed as one of the Top 50 Beauty Blogs by Konector. Over the past 5 years, Lianne has been a regular fixture at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York serving up the latest tips, trends and makeup looks directly from backstage.
Lianne also has a thriving social media practice and consults with brands and companies on blogger outreach. She has also contributed to several online publications such as Mwari Magazine, The Fairest, She Finds, TheGloss.com and Clutch Magazine. Most recently, Lianne was one of ten bloggers chosen by the Estee Lauder Companies owned MAC Cosmetics to create her own eye shadow in their lab in Toronto. She called it “Hocus Pocus” and it sold out in less than a week. Currently, she is a brand ambassador for such iconic brands like Avon and Aveeno and RoC Skincare. Lianne is always online, if you are interested in connecting with her you can find her all over the net. Lianne currently resides in the DC Metro area.
