TMG Faves: Aveda Air Control Hairspray…

I am not a hairspray person at ALL. I don’t like how it makes your hair feel crunchy or stiff BUT I love how it holds a style. That being said, if i do like a hairspray it has to be one of the newer ones with flexible hold. Rceently, I have been using Aveda Air Control and I am in love with it. Here’s why……the hold is 100% flexible no crunch or stiffness whatsoever, it smells great (not that alcohol smell you get from most hairsprays) AND the propellants used are environmentally friendly! The Rundown:

Breakthrough pine resin technology for hold
Dry delivery (won’t make hair wet when sprayed!)
Can be layered, depending upon your desired level of hold.
To add volume, direct spray at hair’s roots.

All of these add up to a great hairspray for me!! I have also noticed that because of the earth friendly propellants, I don;t use as much so the can is lasting me way longer than traditional hairsprays. Style Pretty!!!

Before the glitz and glam that parades down the catwalk, designers come to the drawing board with distinguished hair and make-up teams to create the vision we see walk down the runway.

For Fall 2011, Christian Siriano’s vision was created with the help of MAC and Aveda. Below we talk to the lead and key artists for their inspirations for the runway, from natural beauty to black orchids.

MAC’s Beauty inspiration:

Inspired by “Gorgeous and Simple beauty” and “Minimal Beauty,” MAC went for a natural beauty- highlighting the model’s natural beauty with an emphasis on the eyebrow. Mauves, Gloss eyelids, and a matte stained lip defined the look for the runway.

The AVEDA direction:

Aveda’s Creative Director, Antoinette Beenders takes her inspiration, Black Orchids and shares she came to the look for the hair for Christian Siriano. Taken from the petal of the Orchid, Beenders takes sleek braids, set with the Aveda Control Spray, then flatiron for texture, and then finger combed to deliver a “Smooth with a little bit of texture” look to enhance Siriano’s fall collection.

What is really cool about the breakdown of these looks is its achieve-ability for the beauty novice like myself! Taking cues form both lead artists, would you rock these looks?

For Him: Aveda Light Elements Shaping Wax and Defining Whip…

Honestly, you could use these on your hair too ladies (many stylists used this backstage at the NYFW S/S 2010 shows for everything from slicking down ponytails to short do’s), but the scent in Aveda Light Elements Shaping Wax and Defining Whip is very herbal (many ladies aren’t too keen on that) so guys, don’t be shy….get your hair together!

Both are SUPER light and airy, almost like marshmallow fluff (without the stickiness of course. My son has been using the shaping wax and he loves it. It absorbs into your hair instead of sitting on top so you don’t get that crazy buildup

Both of these allow you to create texture-and medium hold-without adding weight or stickiness. Absorbs into hair to define and separate; light enough to layer without buildup. You can define looks (like flips or spikes) without your hair being stiff or crunchy feeling!

NYFW: Backstage with MAC Freelance Artist Lucia Peroni for Jason Wu…

The hottest ticket in town was Jason Wu’s show at the St. Regis hotel. Ever since being put on the map by Mrs. Obama for designing her Inaugural gown, Mr. Wu has been in high demand and the collection for spring is beautiful. His inspiration came from Ted Burton movies, where all the actresses have huge eyes and dark mouths.

Makeup artist Lucia Peroni who was freelancing for MAC cosmetics created a look that was beyond amazing. There were three different lip colors and something new from MAC for the eyes that will be available Spring 2010 called Crushed Metal Pigment. It’s a champagne color that is dabbed on the eyes for a soft sparkly look.

The Rundown:

Eyes:

Kid and cork to softly contour the eyes upper and lower lashlines. Crushed Metal Pigment all over lids and inner corners. Teddy to softly line/define inner waterlines and Dazzle Lash in Black Dazzle.

Face:

Face a body foundation, Mineralize Skinfinish Natural and Taupe and Shadestar countour.

Lips:

Red – Dame Lipstick

Burgundy – Media and Burgundy Lipmix

Purple – Cyber Smoked Purple

Odile from Aveda created the incredibly gorgeous hair using their Smooth Infusion Prep Style Smoother, Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener and Air Control Hairspray. Hair was pulled back in a chingnon and artfully sculpted into a masterpiece of tulle and ribbon. CMD did the nails which were matte metallic.

Rewind: Aveda Clove Shampoo & Conditoner…

I remember the first item I tried from Aveda many many years ago. My boyfriend had a friend and his girlfriend was a Rep for this company I had never heard of called Aveda. At her insistence, I bought a bunch of stuff to try all the while with her telling me that I would “love it”….boy was she right. Here it is over 18 years later and I am still hooked. The products were of course the Clove Color Shampoo, this was Aveda’s first shampoo (on the scene in 1978) and if I am not mistaken, the first items of it’s kind on the market. I would not recommend using this in the winter when your hair is drier, but this is the perfect shampoo for summer when you may be shampooing more often. I didn’t try the conditioner until much later, but loved that too! Using the shampoo was definitely the moment when I got hooked on Aveda.
