Breakthrough pine resin technology for hold

Dry delivery (won’t make hair wet when sprayed!)

Can be layered, depending upon your desired level of hold.

To add volume, direct spray at hair’s roots.

All of these add up to a great hairspray for me!! I have also noticed that because of the earth friendly propellants, I don;t use as much so the can is lasting me way longer than traditional hairsprays. Style Pretty!!!

For Fall 2011, Christian Siriano’s vision was created with the help of MAC and Aveda. Below we talk to the lead and key artists for their inspirations for the runway, from natural beauty to black orchids.

MAC’s Beauty inspiration:

Inspired by “Gorgeous and Simple beauty” and “Minimal Beauty,” MAC went for a natural beauty- highlighting the model’s natural beauty with an emphasis on the eyebrow. Mauves, Gloss eyelids, and a matte stained lip defined the look for the runway.

The AVEDA direction:

Aveda’s Creative Director, Antoinette Beenders takes her inspiration, Black Orchids and shares she came to the look for the hair for Christian Siriano. Taken from the petal of the Orchid, Beenders takes sleek braids, set with the Aveda Control Spray, then flatiron for texture, and then finger combed to deliver a “Smooth with a little bit of texture” look to enhance Siriano’s fall collection.

What is really cool about the breakdown of these looks is its achieve-ability for the beauty novice like myself! Taking cues form both lead artists, would you rock these looks?

-Marie Denee

Summertime is here! Bronzers are my favorite things to use in the summer especially the kind that offer two shades and one of them is pinkish. The Aveda Uruku Bronzer is a bronzer that combines the power of high performance botanicals and minerals for a smooth and natural-looking, sun-kissed glow with 100% color from the earth. Each duo-shade bronzer is embossed with a diamond symbol representing the Yawanawa anaconda snake. The shades are complimentary to one another but one is more like a blush which gives you that perfect pop of color resulting in a flawlessly natural bronzed look. The Uruku Bronzing Brush is a luxuriously soft, kabuki-style brush that partners with Aveda Uruku Bronzer for perfect application.

A short, 25% PCR metallic bronze aluminum handle makes the brush easy to control
Packaged in a protective 100% organic cotton couch, printed with the Yawanawa anaconda snake symbol

Aveda Uruku Bronzer is available in three duo-shades:

Amazonia

Brazilian Sun

Bossa Glow (limited edition)

Aveda Uruku Bronzer packaged in a 100% post-consumer recycled PET clear clamshell and 80% PCR/Forest-Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified fiber sleeve glazed in annatto pigment. The packaging is adorned with symbols used in Yawanawa face painting ceremonies. As partners in design, Aveda compensated the Yawanawa for the use of their symbols, which include:

The diamond—inspired by the anaconda snake, believed to be a teacher of wisdom and healing.

The arrow—a symbol of courage and strength

The fish—representing the sustenance of life.

PARTNERS IN BEAUTY: AVEDA AND THE YAWANAWA
Since 1992, Aveda has collaborated with the Yawanawa Nation of Brazil to organically grow urukum, the source of our annatto pigment, which colors our Uruku product lineup and packaging while helping to sustain a healthy rainforest ecosystem.

“The symbols reflect our spirit and that of the rainforest, which is sacred to our people. They also remind us of the importance of caring for the earth.”
- Tashka Yawanawa, chief of the Yawanawa People

The Aveda Uruku Bronzing Ritual Kit retails at $55 and is available in Aveda salons, spas and stores and on aveda.com.

Both are SUPER light and airy, almost like marshmallow fluff (without the stickiness of course. My son has been using the shaping wax and he loves it. It absorbs into your hair instead of sitting on top so you don’t get that crazy buildup

Both of these allow you to create texture-and medium hold-without adding weight or stickiness. Absorbs into hair to define and separate; light enough to layer without buildup. You can define looks (like flips or spikes) without your hair being stiff or crunchy feeling!

Creates definition without bulk

Offers lightweight, medium hold

For all hair types

Available at Aveda stores/salons nationwide and aveda.com.

The hottest ticket in town was Jason Wu’s show at the St. Regis hotel. Ever since being put on the map by Mrs. Obama for designing her Inaugural gown, Mr. Wu has been in high demand and the collection for spring is beautiful. His inspiration came from Ted Burton movies, where all the actresses have huge eyes and dark mouths.

Makeup artist Lucia Peroni who was freelancing for MAC cosmetics created a look that was beyond amazing. There were three different lip colors and something new from MAC for the eyes that will be available Spring 2010 called Crushed Metal Pigment. It’s a champagne color that is dabbed on the eyes for a soft sparkly look.

The Rundown:

Eyes:

Kid and cork to softly contour the eyes upper and lower lashlines. Crushed Metal Pigment all over lids and inner corners. Teddy to softly line/define inner waterlines and Dazzle Lash in Black Dazzle.

Face:

Face a body foundation, Mineralize Skinfinish Natural and Taupe and Shadestar countour.

Lips:

Red – Dame Lipstick

Burgundy – Media and Burgundy Lipmix

Purple – Cyber Smoked Purple

Odile from Aveda created the incredibly gorgeous hair using their Smooth Infusion Prep Style Smoother, Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener and Air Control Hairspray. Hair was pulled back in a chingnon and artfully sculpted into a masterpiece of tulle and ribbon. CMD did the nails which were matte metallic.

It contains an exclusive plant infusion—a blend derived from organic aloe, maize and guar bean—creates a smooth surface on hair, organic tapioca defends against humidity for up to 12 hours, hydrolized wheat protein protects against surface damage from heat styling. Features our Smooth Infusion aroma, a fresh spicy citrus-floral featuring certified organic bergamot, certified organic palmarosa, Bulgarian rose and Australian sandalwood.

A few tips from Award-winning stylist Antoinette Beenders…

Always begin with freshly-washed hair. This is especially important if you want your sleek/smooth blow-out to last for several days.

Always blot wet hair with a towel to remove excess moisture. Don’t rub—rubbing creates frizz.

When hair is 100% dry, use cool air to set. This closes the cuticle and ensures your smooth blow-dry will last longer

For thick/coarse hair, apply product before bed. This helps maximize smoothness and helps prevent excess volume in the morning.

Both the shampoo & conditioner are made with organically grown clove, which is a detoxifying herb that also enhances warm tones, and organically grown coffee, which enriches brown hues and provides astringent benefits to your scalp. Now, this is NOT a color depositing shampoo so don;t expect dramatic results in that department. It is a color enhancing shampoo, which means It uses uses natural ingredients to enhance your color. If you are not a brunette, try the Black Malva (Black or Brown hair), Blue Malva (Blonde or Gray hair), Madder Root (Redheads) or Chamomile (Honey Blonde or Highlighted hair) shampoos/conditioners.

The Rundown:

Aveda’s first shampoo — made with organic clove

Inspired by Ayurveda, the ancient healing wisdom of India

Another Aveda first—cap made from recycled bottle caps

Gently cleanses hair and scalp

For brown and honey shades

Deep-conditions

Leaves hair lightweight and manageable

Not intended for lighter shades

Now that the weather is getting warmer and we will be spending more time outside, you may be concerned about certain areas on your face (like acne scarring or dark spots). Brightening products have become very popular as of late and one of my favorites is Aveda’s Enbrightenment. Not only because it’s good for your skin but it’s good for the planet too. Enbrightenment helps get rid of dark spots, rids your skin of discoloration, and helps to improve skin’s clarity in one fell swoop. 100% naturally derived, it has the patented Aveda Pure-Fume aroma blend of botanicals to soothe and calm your skin (plus it smells good too!).

The collection offers to deliver “a more even skin tone, protection against environmental aggressors…and a luminous, clear complexion” with all parts containing ascorbyl glucoside (vitamin C), glucosamine, brown algae, naturally-derived salicyclic acid, and organic shea butter. All of which are great for brightening the skin and soothing irritation simultaneously. I have been using the kit for the past 6 weeks and have managed to rid myself of a bithersome acne scar that was on my chin! (Score!!)

Up to 99.7% of the ingredients in each of the products is naturally derived, and the packaging for the serum, lotion, and cream are 100% PCR PET (Post-Consumer Recycled Polyethylene Terephalate), indicating that a significantly smaller carbon footprint is left from each bottle.
