Taylor Swift sparkled at the CMA Awards last night with the help of celebrity makeup artist Lorrie Turk. I was inspired by the drop dead gorgeousness of the J. Mendel gown Taylor wore, says Turk.

The gown was a very cool toned dove hue and later in the show she wore a jewel toned sweater to perform in, so the color palette was cooler. Because of the lack of time to make changes, the makeup on the red carpet had to work with the pared down look of the performance. We only had time to make a quick lip color change.

The Rundown:

Lorrie started by using COVERGIRL Natureluxe Silk Foundation for a fresh finish on her skin. On her eyes, COVERGIRL Intense ShadowBlast in Platinum Pop followed by a very thin line of COVERGIRL LineExact eyeliner in Very Black and finished her eyes with coats of COVERGIRL Lash Perfection Mascara on her lashes.
For her lips on the red carpet, COVERGIRL ShineBlast in Sparkler–and for the performance we switched it to COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Gloss Balm in Peony.
For a little color and shimmer on her cheeks, she finished by brushing on COVERGIRL TruBlend Minerals Blush in Pure Romance.

Best Actress winner Natalie Portman shimmered in Rodarte this evening inspiring a plum hued beauty look from Dior. Makeup artist Eileen Kastner-Delago was inspired by the purple tones in Portman’s dress and created a lovely subtle smokey look.

The look began with DiorSkin Nude Natural Glow Foundation.
Eyes were swept with Dior 1-Colour Eyeshadow in Gold Touch, 2-Colour Eyeshadow Purple Look and 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Extase Pinks.
Diorshow Waterproof Mascara in Black went on lashes and a coat of Diorshow Iconic Mascara in Navy Blue added dimension.
Dior Addict Lipstick in Infamous Pink gave her lips a rosey pink hue with tons of shine from Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in Apricot Cloche.

Red Carpet Beauty: Hilary Swank at the 83rd Academy Awards…

Actress Hilary Swank looked stunning in a Gucci Premiere couture strapless floor length evening gown at the Oscars tonight. “I wanted to really play up Hilary’s eyes and I used her gorgeous dress with beautiful shades of grey and satin as my color inspiration,” shared makeup artist Monika Blunder.

To create the soft but colorful eye look, I blended silvery colors across the eye and then opened up the eyes by using COVERGIRL LiquilineBlast in Silver Spark close to the top and bottom lash line. I used the darker colors on the outside of the eye lid and then the lighter, silver colors in the inside, using COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Onyx Smoke to bring out the silver shades of her dress. I then curled the lashes (ten second hold on each eye) and added stunning volume with COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume in Very Black.

To complement Hilary’s eyes, I created a matte, flawless face and peachy cheeks for an overall soft look. I used a feathered blush brush to apply COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Plush Peach in a circular motion to the apples of the cheeks. This creates a very soft, luminous look. To achieve a luxurious skin look at home, try COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Silk Foundation.

For the lips, I went with a very natural look, using COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Gloss Balm in Sandstone to add a pretty flush of luxurious color.

Red Carpet Beauty: Marisa Tomei at the 83rd Academy Awards…

For Marisa Tomei’s gorgeous red carpet look, makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen worked exclusively with Anastasia Beverly Hills product to create a stunning red carpet look.

Matthew took the Anastasia Highlighting Crème Duo in St Tropez (image #1 below) dipped into the crème blush and applied it in gentle back and forth sweeps across Marisa’s smiling cheeks. (Pro tip: smiling makes the job mistake proof, because it helps the blush go where it’s supposed to). Using the same brush, Matthew dipped into the highlighting crème and brushed the tops of the lips and nose with the illuminating fluid. The skin was “so translucent and smooth looking!”

Turning to brows, Matthew filled and shaped Marisa’s with Anastasia Brow Wiz Pencil in Brunette (image #2) and created a few feathery strokes in the brow and to define the bottom edge of the brow. Matthew then took Anastasia Brow Duality Pencil (image #3) and placed a bit of the matte highlighter just at the arch of the brow. The total effect is ultra defined and crisp brows that perfectly frame the face.

Moving to the eyes, Matthew took Anastasia Illumin8 Eye Shadow Palette 1 (image #4) and dusted the soft pink sorbet shadow all over the eye to brighten and tone the skin. Matthew raved that “the shadow is so smoothing and imparts a modern velvety texture.” Then Matthew took Illumin8 palette 3 (image #5) and blended the mauve shade into the crease “to create the perfect shade of orchid.” Next, Matthew lined the eye with a thin line of black pencil and smudged the sparkly blue/black shadow from Illumin8 palette #3 into the lashline to create a softer, smokey eyeline.

The eye makeup was finished by curling the lashes and applying two coats of Anastasia Lash Lifting Mascara (image #6), which Matthew says “has reached cult status with many of my clients…it’s incredible.”
Finally to finish Marisa’s stunning look, Matthew applied Anastasia Hydrafull Lip Gloss in Sangria (image #7), a gorgeous soft amethyst berry shade.

Get The Look: Natalie Portman’s Hair & Makeup at the NYC Black Swan Premiere…

Natalie Portman sizzled the other night at the premiere of her latest thriller Black Swan. Wearing a glamorous black Dior off the shoulder dress, she dazzled the red carpet. The loose wavy hair, darkly lined lids and deep burgundy lips would be a perfect holiday look for the season. I have been SO into loose wavy hair these days, so so so over stick straight look. This look is a major thumbs up from me and I think it looks insanely classy. Read on to see how you can easily get this knockout look at home..

The Rundown:

Makeup artist Jeanine Lobell created a striking look for the actress by layering two shades of Rouge Dior Lipcolor.

“I lined her lips with a nude pencil and filled them in with more of a burgundy shade. Then, I went over the first layer with a true blue red in the center to give the color more dimension,” said Lobell.

Hair

The look was designed by her stylist John D., who, though tempted to do an elegant updo, succumbed to the glamour of the dress and created a look that accented the its sense of drama and sensuous silhouette.

“The hair was beautiful, and helped balance the total look,” said John D., “especially since the bottom of the dress was so full. I started with argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream then blow dried the hair smooth using a round brush to give it ‘oomph’ at the root. I used Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream for its soft hold and hydration. Natalie has naturally curly hair and it needs extra moisture to look its best. Since she’s constantly getting her hair done it can easily dry out. Hydrating Styling Cream helps protect her hair, adds moisture, and smoothes the cuticle. It also gets rid of any frizz and static.”

“I then used a 1″ curling iron, and starting at the back of her head, I curled round sections all over her head to set the volume in, curling back from the face in the front. I finished her hair with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to give it extra hold that looked soft. It was raining in New York tonight and I wanted to make absolutely sure the body stayed. After her hair cooled, I used one of my tricks: I sprayed a paddle brush with hairspray and used it to separate and loosen the hair. This also tames the curls at the same time. I completed the lookwith a touch of hairspray to give it extra hold. With Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray, I find that I can brush through the hair several times and it gives no residue. It looks naturally shiny and still moves. Finally, I gave used a light mist of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to finish.”

Celebrity Beauty: Julia Roberts at the “Eat, Pray, Love” Premiere…

Lancôme Ambassadress Julia Roberts looked stunning at the Eat, Pray, Love premiere. I think it’s supercool that there are fab celebs (and women in general!) over 40 popping up everywhere! Her red carpet makeup look was created by celebrity makeup artist Genevieve Herr who channeled a chic and modern look that played up Julia’s light brown eyes and her sleek black ensemble (she wore shorts!).

The Rundown:

For a natural complexion, Genevieve used the new Teint Miracle Foundation, an amazing radiance-boosting foundation (launching next month), Laura Mercier Secret Concealer and Secret Brightening Powder followed by a cream blush in plum on the apples of the cheeks. She wanted to give Julia soft, smoky eyes with a mix of blacks and plums.

To achieve this, she first applied Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to line the eyes and then blended shadows from our new fall French Coquettes collection called the French Touch Color Design Quad. Her lashes were topped with Définicils Precious Cells Mascara in Black for a full, natural lash. She finished the look with a neutral lip using Le Lipstique Lip Liner in Sheer Natural, Color Design Lipstick in Love It! and a touch of Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling for the perfect photo-ready pout.

Celebrity Beauty: Taraji P. Henson Wears Lancome on the BET Awards Red Carpet…

Did you watch the BET Awards last night? I did, and surprisingly the ick factor was extremely low! It was actually a pretty good show! Hostess, Queen Latifah looked amazing and the glamour quotient was sky-high. Presenter Taraji P. Henson was leading the pack in that regard….looking stunning as ever with the help of Lancome and celebrity makeup artist Mylah Morales. Mylah also primped Taraji for the awards after-party, co-hosted with P. Diddy, which called for a makeup change. The look for the awards, Mylah told us, centered around gorgeous skin, pale lips, a neutral eye palette and loads of mascara.

The Rundown:

Get The Look: Sam Fine Gives Jennifer Hudson a Luminous Glow…

Have you seen Jennifer Hudson lately?? Phenomenal. She recently slimmed down and got together with Sam Fine, celebrity makeup artist and creator of The Basics of Beauty, for a shoot showing off her gorgeous new look. Here, Sam shares his insider advice on how you can achieve this flawless and glowing face at home with just a few easy steps.

Coverage: Every great look begins great coverage. Jennifer has beautiful skin, but like many women of color, she has varied tones. I use foundation to unify those varying tones. One of my favorites is the Queen Collection Natural Hue Compact Foundation because it’s cream- to- powder, so it dries down to a powdery finish and looks really natural.

Bronzer: Bronzer is always a must for all women to illuminate their complexion. It’s important to choose a bronzer that’s one shade darker than your natural skin tone and apply it to the outer perimeter of your face to warm the skin and create a halo of glow. After applying bronzer, you can go back and layer over blush to give the skin a pop of color. On Jennifer, I used CoverGirl Natural Hue Mineral Bronzer and Cargo’s matte blush in Laguna.

Eyes: To create Jennifer’s classic, natural eye, I used a brown shadow. Shu Uemura makes a great pressed eye shadow in an array of shades – in this case, their Matte Taupe with Golden Flakes Eyeshadow works perfectly. For this look, I didn’t use a ton of liner, and totally avoided lining underneath her eyes to keep them soft. We used tons of mascara to enhance her look – my favorite is LashBlast from CoverGirl. I always like to apply a coat of mascara, and then move on to something else to let the first coat dry. I’ll come back a few minutes later, curl the lashes, and then layer on a few more coats of mascara to really build the lashes. This makes them much more dramatic and makes the curl hold well. It’s like spraying your hair with a coat of hairspray before using a curling iron.

Lips: To complete her look, I gave Jennifer a beautiful nude lip. The key to a nude lip is to begin by lining the lips with liner that is one shade darker than your natural lip color. Don’t worry about matching the liner to your lipstick – if you match it to your lips, it will look great with any shade of lipstick. After lining the lips, feather the liner towards the center of the mouth to great a base for the lipstick. Next, apply your lipstick. On Jennifer, I chose IMAN Cosmetics’ Luxury Moisturizing Lipstick in Citron. I finished by slicking on a golden gloss add dimension and shine. CoverGIRL’s Shine Blast Lip Gloss is perfect!
