More red lips and beautiful skin, this time at Marc Jacobs Fall collection. Dick Page who is the Artistic Director at Shiseido Cosmetics. The look has been coined as a “Sophisticated 80s” and it was created for the Fall 2012 Marc by Marc Jacobs collection, which was full of iconic 80s references, jewel tones and an edginess steeped in traditional silhouettes. Shiseido’s Dick Page, created a graphic lip for the runway, which was “borderline cartoony and felt like wax crayon.” In the spirit of childhood experimentation, Dick played with products that are intended for the lid and cheek but created a beautiful effect for the brow and eyes. The result? A look that was both modern and “two dimensional.”

The Rundown:

FACE
The Marc by Marc Jacobs face was pure matte perfection, featuring velvety skin that emulated “a flat, poster paint effect,” and allowed the natural rosiness of the cheeks to peek through ever so slightly.

Dick started with a clean, well-moisturized base and applied a wash of Dual Balancing Foundation to remove any redness or imperfections. No color was added to the cheeks.

EYES
The eyes were treated to a shimmery, highlighted “halo,” offset with full, weighty, natural brows by using products for “all the wrong reasons.”

To add weight to the brow, Dick created a custom blend of cream shadows to complement the natural brow shade. He used Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Sable (BR709), Meadow (BE204) and Caviar (BK912) for brunettes and Leather (BR306) for redheads. These cream shadows allowed Dick to easily “customize color for each model.” (Tip: add a bit of clear brow gel to the cream color if it gets a little clumpy.)

Using a fluff brush, Dick blended Luminizing Satin Face Color in Soft Beam Gold (BE206) and High Beam White (WT905), and applied around the entire eye area to create a halo effect.

He then added Perfect Mascara Full Definition in Black (BK901) to just the upper lashes, curling them only if they had no natural curve to them already.

LIPS
Red was on everyone’s lips for the look, as Dick whipped up a custom crimson shade for each girl. “This is what lipstick is like before they finish making it,” he said. “Waxy and condensed.”

Using a Small Eye Shadow Brush, Dick applied the custom matte red shade to the lip area. To create a similar look, try Perfect Rouge in Cerise (RD516) and Valentine (RD415). Dick focused on a precise, defined application for a perfect pop of color. (Tip: “Resist the urge to overdraw.” If you have thinner lips, accentuate them ever so slightly.)

All products are available at fine department stores nationwide, sephora.com and shiseido.com.

This look can easily be achieved at home and anything where you can braid or twist your hair easily is a thumbs up in my book.

The architectural, 40s looking hair was inspired by “the new gibson girl”. Ted says, ““We’ve created something that I think is really something that a girl can do at home. It’s kind of like the new answer to the braid. The twist is the new braid.”

To create the style, Ted began by blow drying the hair using build it blow drying spray for volume, then swept all the hair to one side. Secure the hair with an elastic about five or six inches from the scalp, then twist the hair into itself and pin. Finish with beautiful hold. This is something I can do at home – gonna give this one a whirl for sure!

Stay Pretty!!

The ook at Rag + Bone was a disheveled rocker version that looked amazing. Redken’s Creative Consultant Guido kicked off the Fall/Winter 2012 season in New York yesterday with a texturized, downtown hairstyle to match the India-meets-England theme that inspired Rag + Bone designers Marcus Wainwright & David Neville. The hair reflected that disheveled look that sometimes comes with traveling, complementing the myriad layers, fabrics, and prints that made up the collection.

“In my mind the hair today is a little ‘Patti Smith goes to India’. It’s a little rock ’n’ roll, with soft almost dreadlock-like chunky pieces- it’s really a very cool look, and perfect for the Rag & Bone girl.”

Saturate damp hair with a very generous amount of full frame 07 all-over volumizing mousse.

Let hair air dry to enhance the natural texture.

Create a messy 70’s-style center part.

Apply rough paste 12 working material to the lengths of the hair and twist into long sections to create separation and a piece-y, chunky look.

Tuck hair behind the ear and let sit for a few minutes to create a 70′s inspired bend.

Finish by roughing hair up at the crown for additional texture.

NARS international lead artist Uzo created the look. “Fabiola wanted a look that was strong, but sophisticated at the same time,” said Uzo, NARS International Lead Makeup Artist. “We created a very rich, ombre eye with warm shades complemented by gold tones. The inner corners of the eyes are meant to look like they are illuminated, and to balance the look, the lips have color but are tinted rather than full-on.” I love the fact that even though the focus is on eyes here, we are still seeing a lot of dewy skin so far which I predict will be one of the biggest trends in makeup this year.

The trend here is gorgeous, ethereal, radiant skin. NARS lead artist James Boehmer said of the look, “The look is about ethereal, forest-wet skin,” said James Boehmer, who is also the Director of Global Artistry. “You can’t use enough moisturizer – it’s dewy and really radiant. The eye should be defined in its shape but worn-in with its effect. As if you can see the eyelid through it, which we get from the gloss.” LOVING IT! It’s about time we saw looks that pay attention to skin and that new NARS tinted moisturizer is amazing.

“The makeup look at Vivienne Tam is inspired by the beauty of a Japanese zen garden,” said Maybelline New York Makeup Artist Andy Koh. “The skin is clean and natural, while the lashes are long and curled. Metallic eyes and lips give this look a modern 70s vibe.”

The Rundown:

Fit Me! Foundation™: Andy used two different shades of this perfecting foundation to create flattering contours and angles. He used a light shade to focus on the T-zone area and a deeper shade around the outer edges of the face.

Eye Studio Color Explosion Luminizing Eyeshadow™ in Forest Fury: Inspired by a 1970s metallic eye, Andy applied the gold and green shadows from this palette to the upper eyelid.

Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow™ in Irresistible Ivy: Andy applied this palette’s copper shade to the upper crease. He also applied the copper shade to the outer corner of the lower lid to create a “glowy” effect.

Volum’ Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara™ in Black Drama: Andy used this dramatic mascara on top and bottom lashes to create long, thick, 70s-inspired eyelashes.

Color Sensational High Shine Lipcolor™ in Coral Luster: Andy applied this sumptuous lipstick to add color and shine to the lips. He finished the look with Shine Sensational Lip Gloss in Minty Sheer.

To highlight the eyes, the foundation was kept matte, along with little contour underneath the cheekbone and concealer on the lips. All products are from MAC Cosmetics:

Face: Sculpt Foundation in Natural

Eyes: Smolder & Carbon (blended with #224 brush)

Cheeks: Invisible Powder

Laurent Philippon for Bumble and Bumble created a modern french twist, shying away from the traditional slick and taut twist to a soft, “slept-in” updo using a combination of styling products and few hairpins. Once he achieved the right hair texture with styling wax, he twisted the hair upwards, securing it with 5-6 bobby pins, then pulled out stray pieces in the front for the effortless-chic look.

All products are from Bumble and Bumble:

styling wax

spray de mode

hair powder (available in white, blondish, brown, and black)

Polly Osmond for MAC Cosmetics created a 70s modern punk glam look, complete with the classic cat eye, red lips and “barely there” foundation.

All makeup products are by MAC:

Eyes: Blacktrack Fluidline, Gloss texture on brow bone

Brows: Lingering powder

Face: Mineralize Skin Finish

Cheeks: Light gloss highlighting cheekbone

Lips: Runway Red

Lead stylist Thomas Dunkin for Sebastian Professional created a romantic chignon to compliment the glamorous collection, which was teased into a large bun with twists in the front. He twisted very small, subtle sections on the sides and pulled the hair back into a large bun, securing it with hair bands and bobby pins that matched each model’s haircolor.

Dunkin used the following Sebastian Professional products:

Volupt Spray – Volume-Building Spray-Gel

Shine Define – Ultimate Versatile Hairspray for Shine and Flexible Hold

Shaper Zero Gravity – Dry, Brushable Lightweight Control Hairspray;

Trilliant – Thermal Protection and Shimmer Complex

Sally Hansen created two unique nail polish shades that forecast the Fall nail colors for the season. Dana Caruso, Global Beauty Expert for Sally Hansen, used the Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips in “Autumn Violet” and “Liquid Metal” to complete the signature look.

This unique technology makes it easy to apply polish without the hassle of dry time or base/top coat. The nail strips will be available in the Fall.
