Kiehl’s says, Recharge Cells. Jolt Back Youth. I couldn’t agree more. At a certain point in your life, skincare just HAS to be a priority. It has to, and finding pne that will deliver results is even more important. To that end, I am happy to see more reasonably priced anti-aging options out there. One such line is my apothecary favorite and NYC legend, Kiehls. Their latest, Rosa Artica “delivers energy to skin allowing cellular activity to reawaken, all while simultaneously protecting skin from future damage. As a result skin transforms to a more youthful beginning of reduced lines and wrinkles, improved firmness, and a dramatic restoration of hydration. Used twice daily, skin is jolted back to youth for a smoother, firmer, and denser appearance.” Whoa, thats a mouthful!! But basically speaking, its a powerhouse anti-aging cream that is medium textured, yet very rich feeling and absorbs fairly quickly. I would definitely recommend this for you if you are dry/sensitive or dry/normal it may be too rich for you if you have combination skin.

Key Ingredients

Squalane A highly refined moisturizing oil derived from the olive; Squalane is very silky and easily absorbed and has been found to be extremely compatible with the natural oils of the skin.
Vitamin E is a lipid soluble naturally found in plant leaves, cereal germ oils, and milk. It is known for its antioxidant and moisturizing properties.
Rosa Arctica (Haberlea rhodopensis) Known as a regeneration flower, it is able to survive up to 31 months in a dry-out cycle, by falling into anabiosis. When proper moisture conditions are restored, it returns to life within hours. On skin, it works to jolt cellular vitality, stimulating skin’s own collagen and elastin production.
Lipids This formula also contains cocoa and shea butters and essential fatty acids such as oleic, stearic and palmatic acid to help replenish skin’s barrier.

The cream is also scientifically proven to:

Retain moisture for smoother, healthier skin
Increase cell vitality to accelerate key processes necessary for healthy skin function (proven by decrease of the enzyme LDH)

You all know of my tales of woe with my super dry skin…well I have a great solution for you in the form of a tried and true product in a new formulation. Kiehl’s Creme De Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter [$35] is a TMG Faves item and a must have on my counter for silky smooth skin with absolutely no dryness. This is whipped, fluffy and light as air it also smells divine. Not in that perfumey way but in a natural clean way that doesn’t compete with your fragrance. The cream should last a good long time as a little bit goes a long way. Very light on the skin yet rich in 24-hour hydration.

The Rundown:

Shea Butter the natural fat obtained from the fruit of the African Karate tree and is widely used in lotions and cleansing products for its hydrating properties. Protects skin from dehydration, restores skin’s suppleness and improves the appearance of dry skin.
Squalane a highly refined moisturizing oil derived from the olive; Squalane is very silky and easily absorbed and has been found to be extremely compatible with the natural oils of the skin; we use Squalane in many of our formulations.
Jojoba extracted from the beanlike seeds of the desert shrub Simondsia Chinensis and has been traditionally used by both Mexicans and Native Americans for skin care purpose. It reduces transepidermal water loss without completely blocking the transportation of water vapor and gasses, providing suppleness and softness. It is nurturing for the skin and helps to restore skin’s natural lipid barrier.
Beta Carotene a naturally derived antioxidant predominantly found in many orange/red vegetables such as carrots. It is used in Vitamin A production and gives an orange tint when used in skin care products.

As far as eye creams go, my preference tends to lean more towards something in between texture wise. I like things that feel light, yet are hydrating. All of these qualities exist in Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado. This past February, I had the opportunity to speak to one of the chemists behind this marvelous eye treatment. He showed me how when you rub the cream on, it breaks. Meaning it goes on feeling creamy but then the composition changes after about 15 seconds and it begins to feel more watery. I have been using it since February and it has easily become one of my favorite everyday eye creams.

The cream is formulated with good for your skin ingredients like avocado oil, beta carotene and shea butter. Also another big thing for me is that it stays put and doesn’t slip into my eyes. Most eye treatments have that slide factor, irritating your eyes shortly after they have been applied. This one stays put. This is an excellent base for concealer/eye makeup as it is completely non-greasy. It would make an excellent eye cream for anyone that prefers something lighter yet super-moisturizing.

Here on the east coast…it is hot and humid this time of year (August is the worst). The weather makes for the perfect breeding ground for what i like to call “summer acne”. The best way to keep the ugly stuff at bay is to use a clay based skin care which has the ability to draw out toxins. My new fave is Kiehl’s Rare Earth Collection.

The collection features Kiehl’s newest environmentally friendly, fairly traded ingredient, Amazonian White Clay, sourced from Marajo Island in South America. The clay is gathered at the mouth of the Amazon River at the beginning of the dry season, after months of being nourished by the leaves, fruits and seeds swept down the river from the rainforest.

Amazonian White Clay is known to remove dirt, toxins, excess oil and dead cells that can clog skin and result in enlarged pores. Kiehl’s is proud to responsibly source Amazonian White Clay through a fair-trade partnership that helps provide economic support to the local community on Marajo Island. The products contain a combination of the Amazonian White Clay, Kaolin and Bentonite to achieve visible pore minimizing action, leaving skin more refined and healthier looking.
