Skin…beautiful skin. That’s the trend backstage at Creatures of the Wind, a Chicago based label that debuted in fall of 2008 and has gained steady ground ever since. Chris Peters, one half of the design duo says, “We were inspired by a book from the 17th century called, The Secret Commonwealth: Of Elves, Fauns and Faires,” said designer Chris Peters. “The clothes all have an element of parallel existences – the real world versus the fairy world – manifesting itself in the combinations of fabrics and the idea of transformation and transition.”

The trend here is gorgeous, ethereal, radiant skin. NARS lead artist James Boehmer said of the look, “The look is about ethereal, forest-wet skin,” said James Boehmer, who is also the Director of Global Artistry. “You can’t use enough moisturizer – it’s dewy and really radiant. The eye should be defined in its shape but worn-in with its effect. As if you can see the eyelid through it, which we get from the gloss.” LOVING IT! It’s about time we saw looks that pay attention to skin and that new NARS tinted moisturizer is amazing.

If you are like me, and you like a natural look when it comes to your makeup…listen up! One of my favorite brands NARS has something new for you!! But when it comes to what lies beneath, his philosophy is clear: Skin should shine through makeup. I am in agreement with this statement 100%. The older I get, the less I want things looking matte or cakey. This isn’t to say that I don’t get rid of shine with blotting papers, I just like my skin to look like skin instead of makeup!

These ingredients include Kopara, natural polysaccharides that hydrate, condition and help encourage natural cell renewal; Oceana Saffron, a plant known for its antioxidant and soothing properties; and Galaxaura, a red deep-sea algae found in the islands’ lagoons that is known to be rich in calcium, vitamins A and E, and beta-carotene. NARS worked with Evan Rachel Wood at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, who is nominated for Mildred Pierce.

The Rundown:

Inspiration:

“Sometimes the stars just align (pun intended) and tonight with nominee Evan Rachel Wood, her look came together so organically. Of course with a Gucci Premiere gown such as hers, it was all about the dress so we wanted to keep the make up clean and soft.

When I saw the new NARS Spring collection, it was as if the products were created specifically for this look! We had so much fun getting ready for the big day. We rocked out to some of our favorite tunes (Lykke Li), ate some yummy snacks (cookies of course) and most importantly laughed!”

The Look:

Paramaribo Duo Eyeshadow (new for Spring 2012) was the exact gilded gold and bronze we wanted to create a soft metallic eye that would pick up the accent of the feathers. Then we used Almay One Coat Nourishing Mascara on the lashes to finish the eye (ok maybe more than one coat!).

To keep the rest of the face feminine, the new NARS Gaiety Blush (new for Spring 2012) was amazing for a sheer flush of pink on the cheek along with a swipe of good-old standby NARS Angelika Blush to add a bit of shimmer.

NARS Sex Machine Velvet Matte Lip Pencil topped off with Como Larger Than Life Lip Gloss gave Evan a soft mauve pink lip to complete the look.

Red Carpet Beauty: Piper Perabo wears NARS at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards…

Y’all know I LOVE anything NARS, right? Well here is the first makeup look breakdown of the night, This one is for Piper Perabo, makeup by Troy Surratt for NARS Cosmetics.

The Rundown:

Inspiration:

“The look is very ethereal. It’s dewy and glowing with a gorgeous sparkly pink lip, which was the perfect look to complement her bold dress. For me, it was a classic approach with a subtle balance of attention paid to all points of the face.”

The Look:

We started with Cle de Peau La Crème to prep her skin as it’s something she uses on the show and day to day. Her foundation was NARS Sheer Glow Foundation with Cle de Peau Concealer to cover any imperfections.

On her eyes, we dusted the shimmery icy pink side of Douce France Trio Eyeshadow (new for Spring 2012). We created a thin, barely-there line of black along her entire lashline using the Nuits Blanches Eyeliner Stylo. To get the precision, we placed the Push Eyeliner Brush to the ink of the stylo, and applied a thin line from the inner corner to the outer corner, growing slightly thicker at the outer corner, but not extending past the corner. We used Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara on her lashes for definition. Brows were filled in with Jodhpur Eyebrow Pencil to make them appear more dense. To set the pencil, I applied Shiseido Translucent Brow Shaper.

On the apples of her cheeks, using a Yachiyo Kabuki Artisan Brush, we created warmth with Gilda Blush. It was the perfect blush shade at the intersection of peach meets pink without any shimmer.

We created a pinky-beige lip by first lightly defining with Rosebud Lipliner Pencil, filling in with with Frivolous Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil, and applying Baby Doll Lip Lacquer just to the center of the lips. This creates a light-reflecting affect for a fuller pout on the red carpet.

Spring 2012: NARS Color Collection + Makeup Removing Water…

What’s up my babies!?? I know…long time no hear but things have been VERY busy over here at TMG HQ. (If you follow me on twitter you know whats up!!) AND….now that the holidaze are OVER…..what better way to jump back in than to share with you some spring goodness!! It SNOWED today for the first time and when I saw this collection I just melted. NARS Spring 2012 is a mix of berries, blues, warmth and brights – perfect for getting your mind of the winter blahs. In addition, two New York Fashion Week backstage STAPLES are now available – Makeup Remover Water & Oil Free eye makeup remover!!

The Spring 2012 Collection, created by Founder and Creative Director François Nars, stars a mix of bright and playful colors balanced with rich, saturated hues. Nars chose to photograph model Ginta Lapina for the spring campaign, explaining, “Her delicate features and classic beauty made her an ideal fit for a collection that’s at once fresh and fierce.”

To achieve the makeup look in the campaign image, Ginta’s skin was made radiant with Santa Fe Sheer Glow Foundation and set with Eden Loose Powder to create an Immaculate Complexion. Next, Zen Blush was applied to the hollow of the cheek and blended toward the temple for contour; Gaiety Blush was brushed onto the apple of the cheeks for a pop of color.

After prepping with Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, Lhasa Single Eyeshadow was blended onto Ginta’s lids, extending the color to the upper inner corner of the eye. Her brow bone was highlighted with Albatross Highlighting Blush before Dark Rite Soft Touch Shadow Pencil was swiped across the upper lash line. It was further defined with Rue Saint-Honoré Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner; a winged effect was created in the outer corner. The lower lash was lined with the same pencil and gently smudged. Brows were defined with Blondie Single Eyeshadow; lashes were curled, then brushed with two coats of Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara. Lips were lined and filled in with Amazon Lipliner Pencil, then topped with Valparaíso Pure Matte Lipstick and Misbehave Lip Gloss for shine. The look was completed with Écume Nail Polish on the nails.

The Rundown:

Red Carpet Beauty: Get The Look – Katy Perry at the American Music Awards…

Even though I am not a fan of Katy Perry’s new Judy Jetson hair – I SO like that she changes it up on a regular basis. She will be back to her gorge raven locks at some point. In the meantime, MUA Jake Bailey gave her an all lashes all lips looks for the AMA’s last night that would be PERFECT for a holiday party. I mean….LOOK at those LASHES!!!!!!!

“I wanted to do a sophisticated twist on the “classic Katy” look to complement the Vivienne Westwood couture dress. We went extra dramatic with the signature liquid liner and lashes and went for a coral (orangey) red as opposed to a classic red to pick up on some accents in the dress.” says Jake.

“I perfected her skin by buffing a liquid foundation onto her skin using a large kabuki brush and set it with a dusting of Guerlain’s Les Viollettes loose powder. I warmed her complexion with a tawny blush from Nars called “madly” and swirled a tiny bit of a coral shimmer blush called “orgasm”…also from Nars on the apples of her cheeks for a little extra glow.”

“I elongated her eyes using a liquid liner marker from Le Metier. Then, I applied 2 sets of strip lashes and coated them with 2 coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast 24HR mascara (available in January!). This is an extra rich formula that lasts forever. I’ve been using this on all my clients for red carpets lately since I can’t always be with them for touch ups. I lined her lower lashline with COVERGIRL LiquilineBlast eyeliner in “violet voltage” I softened it by blending it out with a small shadow brush.” Bailey continued.

“I used a bright coral red, COVERGIRL LipPerfection lipcolor in “flame”. This was the perfect color to pick up on the dresses coral accents and complemented her pink hair I had Katy apply the lipstick directly from the tube and I refined the edges using a small lipstick brush.”

No secret how much I love NARS. The brand continues to amaze me with their use of color and texture . The Summer 2011 Collection is no exception, created by Founder & Creative Director François Nars, this group brings forward bright colors reminiscent of the tropics. Fashion Week: NARS Cosmetics for 3.1 phillip lim MBFW S/S 2011…

Talk about easy makeup for spring!

NARS Cosmetics created the look for 3.1 phillip lim at the women’s s/s 2011, “Youthful elegance was what we were aiming for,” said lead makeup artist Lisa Butler.

Depending on the model’s skin and look, some of them wore next to no makeup for the show! Everything was colorless, and “beige-y,” as Butler described it, with very, “defined, sculpted cheeks and virtually nothing else. We’ve even taken down the lip on all of the models to give them a faded look.”

To define the eyes, NARS Brumes Duo Eyeshadow, NARS Blondie Single Eyeshadow and NARS Bali Single Eyeshadow were used. Butler emphasized, “nothing like, [with] color…no mascara or [pink] lipstick.”

For the face, try NARSskin Brightening Serum, NARS PRO-PRIME Pore Refining Primer (available Spring 2011), NARS Sheer Glow Foundation and NARS Duo Concealer to hide any blemishes.

NARS Hollywood Land Soft Touch Shadow Pencil (available Spring 2011) was used as a highlighter to define the cheeks. NARS Madere Pure Matte Lipstick (available Spring 2011) was used in defining the cheeks when mixed with NARS Barbarella Lipstick. Butler finished the lips with NARS Madere Pure Matte Lipstick.
